Dog Accessories to Make Your Pup's Life Easier

When you buy a dog you should buy some essential accessories so that the smallest member of your family can live with ease and comfort. There are some essential items which are required if you want to take proper care of your pet. In fact in certain cases you need these accessories simply to comply with the local laws that are related to breeding dogs. Various dog accessories are available in the market. While some of them are basics some others are used just for convenience. As an owner you can decide what you need for your dog and what you can leave out.

The accessories that are essential and obvious include food and water bowls for your dog. If your pet is larger then it will have a tendency to move the bowl when it eats the food. This not only makes noise but you will have to search for the bowl every time you feed your dog. So you should rather go for a ceramic bowl. These bowls are quite heavy and they are difficult to move. But the problem with these bowls is that they are easily breakable. The best option is a strong plastic bowl which has a rubber lining. This will prevent your dog to slide the bowl and it will enjoy its food in peace.

You should add an identity tag to the collar. This tag should contain your name and contact details so that you can get your pet back in case it gets lost. One more thing that you can include in the essential items is the doggie convenience instrument called pooper scooper.

Other than these small dog accessories you should get a dog house or dog kennel so that your little family member feels secure and happy. Choose a dog house with enough space so that your pet can move around. You can also choose a dog house with windows for proper ventilation.

One of the items that people think to be useless is dog booties. But trust me it is very useful especially in the hotter climatic regions. It successfully protects the pads in a dog's foot from the rough and hot terrain that your little pet may encounter. Booties might not be important for cool climatic region but it is essential for desert cities.

How Essential Are Dog Toys To Your Pets ?

Dog toys are relevant to dogs no matter what breed they are. Ordinarily, people perceive toys as a plaything for passing time or for leisure. However, for dogs, toys are very relevant due to several reasons. Dog toys serve as a past time for dogs to avoid boredom. If dogs are bored, they are bound to do naughty stuff or to be restless. If they have dog toys to play with, they are able to do worthwhile activities with the toy. There are different types of dog toys with different purposes. One type of dog toy is the active toys which are especially made of very hard rubber to sustain when dogs chew it.

They come in different shapes and sizes, too. Rubber dog bones and tennis balls are among the favorites of many dogs. Make sure that the ball is not too small for the dog to swallow. It is very normal for dogs to chew any thing that are within their reach. That is why dog owners provide dog toys for chewing so that dogs will rather chew the toy instead of chewing things around him. Then, there is a dog toy for distraction. This refers to toys that are to lure your dog away from some destructive activities. Dogs really enjoy it especially that distraction toys are filled with bits of treats.

As they chew the toy, they also get to eat the treats. This is one positive reinforcement method. Another example of distraction dog toy is the "busy box". Treats are hidden among the cubes and dogs can explore the cubes for the treats. This is quite similar to the treasure hunt game for kids and dogs also enjoy this kind of game. You may buy toys for gaming such as noise making toys and toys with an open cavity within them for interactive games. Frisbees are among many dogs' favorites. Both the dog and its owner can enjoy playing this outdoor game.

Many dog toys have been modified these days to make playtime more exciting. You can already find glow in the dark Frisbees and tennis balls in pet shops or supermarkets these days. Comfort dog toys are soft stuffed toys that can give comfort to your dogs. They can hug or sleep with these toys although comfort toys are not for all types of dogs. These dog toys come in the shape of small animals like mouse, rabbit or duck. These toys are light and therefore it is easy to carry around so your dogs can shake it with their mouth.

Without these toys, your dogs might look for other things in your household that they can chew and this act could be destructive or health threatening to them. Remember that dog toys are not solely to entertain or to exercise your dogs but also to train them. One good thing is that toys can improve a dog's natural hunting skills and their social skills as well. If you frequently spend time playing with your dog, you get to bond with him better. By using these toys, you are also making your dog more alert to your commands and more agile.

You have to know the appropriate toys for your dog according to their breed. Surely, your dog will benefit from these toys that you will give them.

Grooming a dog on a daily basis is very essential since it keeps the dog clean and free from all diseases. Even dogs have skin related problem so regular cleaning is crucial, as it will prevent further development of skin infection and other related problems.

Effective tips before grooming a dog

1) Arrange all essential things before grooming the dog : There are various things that you may need to do to groom your dog properly for instance cleaning its ears, trimming its nails, brushing, and doing a haircut. Make sure that when you are taking the dog for bath all these essential things must be in place. 2) Brush the dog before bathing: It is better to brush the dog's fur before it is given a bath. One must ask an expert for the type of brush that you will be using for this purpose. Brushing a dog will remove all tangles and will facilitate the bathing process. After bath usually tangles becomes too much to be removed. This is the first step of dog grooming.

3) Grooming step wise: The dog must be groomed depending upon the need of the breed. Some dog's eyes must be cleaned every day, so first wipe out the area around the dog's eyes with a wet cloth. Then use an ear bud to clean wax formation in its ears. Most dogs suffer from tooth problem, so brush its teeth properly; a dog's tooth must be brushed at least three times in a week. Do not forget its nails, trim it properly but do not trim it too much; ask a vet about a proper suggestion for it.

4) Shampoo it properly : The basic thing to remember while grooming a dog is to shampoo it starting from its neck and then move backwards. Use an herbal shampoo and not a strong one as strong shampoos leave residue behind. Form lather and then rinse it properly. You can apply shampoo carefully on its head and then rinse it immediately. Make sure that the soap does not enter its ears or eyes.

5) Rinse it properly : The dog must be rinsed properly so that there is not left over of the shampoo. Use a small hand shower and start with its head region. You can take someone's help to keep the dog at ease and make sure water does not enter its ears. Then wash its entire body properly unless you see soap- bubbles disappearing. Wipe the dog well and use a hair dryer meant especially for dogs to blow it dry. Do not blow too much hot air and keep the dryer at a distance while doing the same.

These are some of the essential things to remember while grooming a dog.

Unique And Effective Dog Training Tips

When you have a doggy you think that all you have to do is feed, wash and love them. That is not enough. If you want to live peacefully with your doggy, then you have to train it. A trained puppy is loved by all. You don't have to worry about complaints from your neighbours and friends that your doggy is chasing their kids or barking incessantly. Here are some very useful puppy training tips that you can use:

Listen to your puppy
Sometimes your doggy may feel uncomfortable in the presence of another dog or person. Don't force your pup to be in that place or say hello to that person. Listen to your dog and check if he wants to be there or not. You should not force your dog into something he's not interested in.

dog training tips

Be very affectionate towards your dog
You can discipline your dog with love and it is one of the widely utilized dog training tips by most professional trainers out there. If your dog does something you don't want him to do, tell it firmly but don't hit them or be rude to them. You have to make them realise their mistake. When they do something good give them a lot of affection and maybe even a treat. Let him know that he was good. You have to be extra generous when training your dog.

Does he like it ?
The treats that you give your dog during training should be liked by him. All dogs don't like the same thing. Give their favourite treat to make the training sessions more successful. Try a variety of treats and watch carefully which one is your dog's favourite.

Tell the dog what you want him to do
Tell your dog No when he does something wrong. Just telling No is not enough but convey what he should do instead while giving training tips for dogs. If your dog jumps on a visitor and you say no. He will not stop jumping on them instead he may jump on a different side or even higher. Instead of saying no, tell them to sit. That would be more effective.

Be consistent
All the members should be involved while training the dog and not just one. The dog should be obedient to all family members. The training should be consistent throughout.

Your expectations should be realistic
Your dog will take some time get trained. The dog's behaviour cannot be changed in 1 or 2 training sessions. A grown dog takes longer to get trained as he is somewhat set in his ways. But it is not impossible. You should have some patience with your dog.

Freedom
Your dog should feel free in your home. But too much freedom is not good. You must show them the places they are allowed to be and some places are off their limits like your baby's room. Freedom should not be taken lightly. You can tether your dog using crates. You have to keep an eye on your dog at all times.

If you follow these training tips for dogs you will have a good doggy for sure!

Dog Treats - How to Choose Healthy Treats for Your Dog

Your dog is indeed your best friend and how you feed him or her is very important. Even small items like treats are very important to their health. They can be used for different purposes. Sometimes you will use them as a reward when training other times just give them something enjoyable just because you love your friend. However you use them it is important to know your choices.

How these snacks can improve and maintain your pet's health: The most common way is to clean and maintain their teeth. The dog treat should be chewable and encourage your pet to use their teeth. When they do this they will be automatically cleaning their teeth. Examples of these are rawhide (like beef jerky) snacks that take plenty of chewing. Another is a bone that you can get fresh from your local butcher or again in snack form from the pet store.
Dog Treats

Any snack you give your pet should be nutritious. For canines protein is the most common as they are primarily meat eaters. There are many varieties of these on the market. They are often in the form of strips and sometimes nuggets or biscuits. Minerals and vitamins should not be forgotten. These are also vital to your pet's health, and many snacks will include these.

Dog treats come in many shapes and sizes. You can get them in grocery stores, in the pet section or your local pet store. Try to take a quick look at ingredients to be sure that your pet is receiving the best nutrition from their snack and not a whole lot of chemicals. Sometimes there are a surprising amount of chemicals in these products, and the more natural ingredients they have the better they will be for your pet.

One way to ensure your pet is getting healthy ingredients in their snacks is to make them yourself. Remember there is a balanced diet your pet should have in order to stay healthy and happy. 40 percent meat, 30 percent vegetables and 30 percent starch. Exceptions to these catagories are if they are on a vegetarian diet, which should only be done when consulting your vetenarian. There are many recepies on line for snacks and dog food.

As you can see there are many dog treats available for your pet, and even some you can make yourself. Always remember that your pet depends on you to help him keep healthy and happy.

Natural dog treats contain no added chemical preservatives or fillers, leaving your dog with straight nutritional value, nothing more. Natural treats also use the highest grade of edible products and processing techniques to ensure they're even fit for human consumption - which who knows, might help if you ever get stuck in a survival situation with your dog! Let's examine a few commercially-available natural dog treats, and then a few treats you might stumble across in your own back yard.

 Dog food Treat

Commercial Natural Dog Treats
As odd as they sound on first blush, pig ears are a natural favorite for many of our furry friends. They contain a reasonable amount of fat, and dogs find the flavor irresistible (much like some humans and pork rinds). Pig ear treats should be baked instead of chemically processed, and should have no added preservatives or coloring agents. Check your package label carefully.
Greenies are another favorite dog treat -- a unique variety that uses chlorophyll to naturally freshen your dog's breath. Greenies contain no preservatives, artificial flavors or extra coloring. Surprisingly enough, dogs love them, and owners swear by them when it comes to sweetening the breath in a safe and healthy way. Chewing these treats has the added benefit of helping to clean your dog's teeth.

Mother Nature's Own Natural Dog Treats
You might be surprised to realize that natural dog treats exist right in your refrigerator, or in your garden. Carrots, apple slices, and celery are all terrific natural dog treats, providing vitamins without added chemical enhancers. Just give these treats a wash before giving them to your dogs. For an extra-special treat, chop up your fruits or veggies, and mix with a dab of peanut butter and a teaspoon or two of raw oatmeal.
Whether commercially manufactured or straight from the garden, natural dog treats are a great way to give your dogs a dash of extra nutrition without any mysterious extras.

Dog Training Advice- 9 Basic Principles To Training Your Dog

Calling All Dog Lovers! Allan Codling here. You're probably looking for dog training advice because you have a dog and you want to get them trained but don't quite know how to go about doing so. I felt that way when I first got a dog. So I wanted to show you 9 important fundamental steps to get on the right track to training your dog successfully.

Keep A Happy Excited Attitude - You should always base your dog training on positive reinforcement. During the training sessions you want him/her to enjoy the training and be excited about it so you want maintain a happy enthusiastic attitude at all times. Never display frustration. Praise or give treats when he or she displays good behaviors or obeys a command
Firm Voice - When you give commands, use a firm deep voice. Use a happy soft voice when he completes tasks or displays behavior.

Dog Training Advice

When To Start Training? - You may get dog training advice that tells you wait until it matures before you start training. Some people say the best time for dog training is at 6-8 weeks, maybe even earlier depending on the puppy. It is highly recommended that you train your dog right away once you learn the proper way of course. And even if a dog is older, you should still train the dog. Never to late for dog training I always.

Don't Punish Your Dog- This may become very difficult to do especially if you are a new owner. But negative reinforcement is not as effective as positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement dog training advice is just counterproductive. When you scream, yell, hit or punish your dog you make him/her fearful and on edge. Your dog will never know what to expect from you meaning whether you will be nice or mean. When he/she feels this way it interferes with his or her ability to listen, respond, and absorb your training.

Patience & Understanding- Teaching your dog is fun and exciting to do however there will be times where you will get discouraged and fed up when he or she struggles to learn what you are trying to train your dog to do. It is very important to be very patient with your dog especially if it is a puppy. Remember they are trying, they just need time and practice. When you feel tired or mentally frustrated just stop the session for a little bit so you can cool off. Also keep in mind that some dogs learn quickly while other breeds take a little longer. Dog's are sensitive and they can tell when you are getting worked up.
Extra Dog Training Advice- Training Sessions

Short But Powerful Sessions- You should never exhaust yourself and your dog with several hours of training a day. Fifteen to thirty minutes each day is more than enough to be effective. Train your dog with one command per session. Do not overwhelm them with everything in the training book. It is very easy to get excited by all this dog training advice we get and then throw everything you learned at your dog at once. Do not do this. Structure your sessions and keep them short, focused and organized.

You need to start with easy to learn commands. As your dog learns these simple commands, progressively work your way to more involved commands. This baby step approach works well for you dog. It will get your dog accustomed to training sessions and your dog will develop a good learning pattern.

Remove Distractions- Dogs can get easily excited by a lot of things and you may find yourself losing your dog's focus through out your training sessions. So it is very important to take away anything that seems to distract your dog. Find a special place where you can work with your dog alone.
It is better for you to be the one training your dog - Many people get dogs and then just enroll them in training classes or higher a professional trainer. This is not good for three reasons. The first is you will not develop the bond with your dog and he or she will not see you as the leader, and the second is he will not be trained to know how "you" want things to be done in your household. And thirdly, it's cheaper. Classes and trainers are getting more expensive by the minute since they charge an arm and a leg even for just dog training advice sometimes.

Follow Effective Dog Training Advice- If you are looking to learn how to train your dog you may be getting all sorts of advice from everywhere telling you to do this do that. There are a lot of good sources of dog training material out there.
There is plenty of great sources of dog training material on the internet. I found a lot of great dog training, dog behavior and dog health books and videos online and all my dogs are well trained, well behaved and very healthy because of them. So get yourself some great dog training advice and you will get your dog to be obedient, housebroken and well behaved!

I hope you enjoyed this dog training advice! Now let's get that doggy trained!

What You Need To Know About Online Dog Training

The internet revolution has affected nearly every area of our lives. It has created instant access to information unheard of even 30 years ago. People turn to the internet as a low cost and convenient alternative to brick and mortar stores, an easy way to learn, unlimited entertainment opportunities, and more.
It seems that learning to train your dog is no different; many people are turning to online dog training because they are looking for ways to easily train their pet at a minimal cost.
When choosing to train your dog using online information, there are several important factors to consider so you are confident you are receiving the best training advice.

Online Dog Training

There are dozens of breeds that can be trained using online dog training. You will need to know what specific techniques work well with specific breeds of dogs and what works generally for all dogs. For example, some dogs are used for security because of their defensive and aggressive nature, while other breeds are extremely gentle in personality and are genuinely friendly. Other considerations include the health, food, and exercise requirements for different breeds of dogs. Any, good online training advice or program should consider these factors.

Training Methods
As you choose the online program for your dog, you should be sure the training method is right for your pet, for you, and your home. Every year, thousands of dogs are taken to local dog shelters because the owner underestimated their ability to train the animal, or they underestimated the amount of time necessary to €do it right.€
Online dog training can be, and generally will be, less expensive to learn than other methods; however, they are also harder to perfect and can easily be the source of more frustration and harm than good when the training methods are not used correctly. One important lesson you need to learn right off is that some breeds of dog reach maturity later than other dogs; this means some breeds can be trained faster than other breeds.

Healthcare Needs
An element of dog training not usually considered by most pet owners is the need to know the health of the dog before training begins. A disadvantage to online dog training is that you will not have a professional handling your pet. A professional knows what signs to look for that may be affecting the ability or of your dog to learn, or how quickly he is able to learn.
When using online dog training, it is very important for you to have your dog examined by a licensed veterinarian before training begins. The purpose of the examination is to discover your pet's general overall health and any health problems that may be present. Even after the training has started, you should have him checked periodically to ensure the training methods you are using are not causing harm to the dog.
Health problems can be passed down from generation to generation, especially if the dog is a purebred breed. To help prevent disorders from appearing in your pet and causing significant health problems, veterinarian visits should be regular as suggested by your veterinarian. Remember also your dog must get regular exercise, in addition to the online dog training, to maintain their weight and keep them healthy.

Training Needs
Online dog training, especially obedience training starting at a young age, is an essential ingredient in training your dog to be pleasant in a domestic setting. Proper training will ensure that your dog will not hurt themselves, others, or damage anything in the home through ignorance. Some dogs like to jump up on their owners and get underfoot when the owner is not looking, training will correct these problems and many more.
Training the animal early also teaches the dog good manners and allows them to be indoor animals and be around the rest of the family. Proper training can also curb the destructive tendencies of a discontent dog.

Although online dog training may require you to use several different methods in order to teach your dog a particular lesson, it is often less expensive and the information is readily available. As you pay attention to your pets health needs, their exercise needs, and the type of breed and their particular learning requirements, you will be able to locate good advice on how to train your dog online. As you see success, you will find your training efforts will turn your new addition into a pet that is more lovable and safer to be around for you, guests, and all other members of the family.

Various Dog Training Tips and Their Importance

To own a dog involves several important responsibilities. One of which is providing training to the dog. Dog training is necessary as it makes a strong bond between you and your pet. A well trained dog is easier to live with. It makes your dog a safer pet and good companion. It is important to train a pet so that it does not create any behaviour problems.

There are various dog training processes. Generally dog training process starts with obedience training. Your pet must recognize his name and respond to it when called. Training process includes hand gestures and tone of voice which the dog understands. The dog should learn one exercise completely before progressing to another. As the training process goes on the pet starts to learn how to behave under a particular situation.

Dog Training Tips

The pet is given treats when he performs a particular task given to him. The dog is trained to learn how to respond to a particular sound or people in general. Clicker training is also important part of pets training. In this process dog is given some eatables followed by a clicker sound. The dog performs a particular task as he wants to get eatables after performing the particular task. Words of command should be clear so that pet listen to them and performs its task efficiently.

The dog should not be allowed to miss any command given to him. The pets should be punished if he does not perform a task. As there are different breeds of dogs, some pets perform the task easily while some find the tasks difficult to perform. So, patience is needed in training the pet particular exercises. The use of physical punishment can be implemented if a dog does not perform a task. But the punishment should be just as vigorous punishment will scare the animal. Consistency is key in giving training to the dog. If the dog is rewarded once and ignored another time it will get confused and become unsure of what to do next time. Training sessions are usually kept short so that the dog learns a particular exercise well before proceeding to another exercise.

The dog is given training in environment where there is less distraction so that the training process is completed efficiently. Training method also involves agility training. Large number of dogs enjoys this training method. This technique involves setting up agility lesson requiring the dog to overcome the obstacles in set time frame. The obstacles may comprise of crawling through tunnels, jumping over fences, climbing walls etc. The presence of dog's owner is important while giving training to his pet so that the owner also learns which commands are to be given to the dog. The owner should also give respect to the dog as he chose his pet and not the pet itself. If you do not treat your dog right you will end up with unhappy dog who will try to run away from you. After completion of training process your dog becomes a safer pet for you and society in general.

Understanding Panic Attack In Dogs - What You Can Do To Help

Panic attack in dogs comes on suddenly and can be triggered by booming noises such as the sharp sound of gun shots, fireworks or even rumbling thunder. The fight or flight instinct kicks in big-time, but since fighting an invisible entity is not possible, some dogs will panic and blindly run for survival. For dogs who are protected within a fenced yard or confined inside a building, there is nowhere for them to go. So they turn all of that "flight" energy into outward detrimental behavior or they internalize it, causing severe shaking, whining, panting, and raised heart rate.

No one really understands why some dogs experience these panic attacks and others show no signs of anxiety during the same circumstances. In a home of two or more dogs, one may sleep right through a powerful thunderstorm, while another dog has a panic attack and seems to be totally lost within its fear.
 Panic Attack In Dogs

If you have adopted a rescued dog, its previous history may be unattainable. It could have included some type of incident that caused a deathly fear of certain situations or abrasive sounds. If only they could tell us. On second thought, I'm not sure I would want to know. Anyway, you may never know the reason behind the panic, but it's really not as important as helping your dog learn to relax rather than react.

I honestly believe that a panic attack in dogs is much the same as it is in people. I don't believe we really understand why a number of people suffer from panic attacks and yet others don't. Fortunately for us, humans are able to seek out guidance to help us conquer our anxieties.
Dogs don't have any methods or dealing with an anxiety or panic attack. They have no means of working through it or of understanding how to overcome this panic they are experiencing.

That is where we, as their caretakers, must intervene and find methods to help overcome this panic attack in dogs.
To begin with, I have to emphasize the necessity of not chastising your dog for running away or destroying something during a panic attack. Your dog is reacting to something he doesn't understand. By punishing him you will be adding to the already high level of anxiety your dog is experiencing, possibly escalating any further episodes.

I do believe that a dog who has undergone some obedience dog training will have an advantage over an untrained dog in that your trained dog may be able to be distracted from its fear somewhat by obedience commands. This is not always the case with extreme anxiety, because it does seem to dominate any previous training, but with mild cases of panic attack, distraction with obedience work may help.

Sedatives are one option for calming a panic attack in dogs. This is not a method I would recommend because it doesn't solve the problem. It will only temporarily mask the situation. Your dog will be listless and debilitated for a few hours and each dog may react a little differently to each sedative.
Some sedatives will slow down your dog's reactions yet not calm the panic within. He will still experience the distress caused by the noise or other stimulant without being able to do anything about it. If you have tried other options that have failed and decide to use a sedative, please do some research on the side effects of the specific sedative you will be using.

The ultimate goal is to help your dog defeat its terror and get through a nerve wracking event without the anxiety that has plagued him in the past.Another tool for helping overcome a panic attack in dogs is the anxiety wrap. You can find this as the Original Anxiety Wrap and the Thundershirt. The anxiety wrap is a snugly fitting shirt that exerts deep touch pressure on pressure points to soothe a dog during stress. It is similar to the swaddling of an infant to help it feel secure. This does not work for every dog or every stressful situation, but it may help many dogs. Some are helped immediately, others might take several times of using the anxiety wrap to slowly lessen the extreme panic they have experienced so many times.

There are a number of options to work through a panic attack in dogs. There really is no reason to simply watch your dog deal with the terror it feels. It may take some research, seeking advice from trainers and an abundance of patience, but it will be worth it on that day when you are in the middle of a thunderstorm and your dog is lying peacefully on its bed.

Dog Care Advice - How to control Fleas

Dog care is one of the most important aspects of owning a dog. When you don't properly care for your dog they can have health problems and some of these problems may in turn affect you. When you love your dog and wish for a long life you understand the needs of your dog. Having said that, there are some tips which can make dog care a little easier on you. With fleas you are usually only aware of an infestation when you start to feel the bits on your legs. There are preventative methods that will help your home stay clear of the pests and your dogs safe.

dog Flea & Ticks

First let's look at some of the ways your dog can pick up fleas. First and foremost moisture around puddles, unsanitary areas, and the woods can have fleas. It is important to keep your dog out of these regions. Don't let your dog play in puddles that have formed around the sides of the street where there is typically a lot of trash. You also want to keep your dog out of the woods during the summer season. Humidity is one of the largest draws for fleas, therefore the summer months are more important for guarding against fleas in areas where their can be a lot of water and of course the words were insects typically thrive. Another place you will find fleas is in homes that are not cleaned. Fleas tend to be in unsanitary areas. This means that if you rarely dust your home, clean the sheets, and wash the dog's bed you are leaving yourself open to a flea infestation depending on where you live or spend your time. Remember fleas can be carried into the home by the owner. So if you have a job where you are required to spend a lot of time at streams and other areas that attract fleas you may want to remove those clothes and wash them before letting them back in the rest of the home. The last place where you may find flea infestations are humane societies, and animal shelters. Typically animal shelters and human societies are a refuge for lost pets as well as abandoned pets. You may find that even with proper care at the facilities the dogs will come home to you with fleas.

Now that you know how fleas may latch onto your dog let's look at some of the prevention methods you can take. First you will find that there are flea medications that should be used all year round, and most especially during the summer season. These medications are generally a liquid or collar that has flea insecticide. The medication should be administered on a monthly basis. You can find some medications that are taken orally, but these are not always as effective as the liquid. You also have the option of using a flea and tick shampoo. This shampoo offers a medication that latches onto the hair after a bath and will work for about thirty days. As some dog breeds are very sensitive to baths this is the least recommended option.

For other care of fleas you should also take care to brush the dog on a daily basis. If you have gone for a walk you will want to brush the dog before you enter the house. The brushing motion will dislodge any fleas that have attached themselves to the hair. Combined with flea medication you should be worry free from ticks and be keeping your dog in great health. If fleas do manage to get in the house you will need to release a bug bomb, clean all linens, and of course the dog's bed. This will help the infestation from spreading and offer a clean home once again.

Everyone thinks choosing the right dog bowl for their pets is easy but, it can be one of the most important things for a dog owner. Some bowls are not hygienic and harbour harmful bacteria. It is important to choose wisely as accordingly to your dog's size, eating and drinking habits, your personal style and taste, and of course health and safety issues.

1) Choosing the right type of bowl among plastic, ceramic or stainless steel dog bowl :
Plastic bowls maybe the cheapest but are least desirable due to its propensity to harbour bacteria and some dogs develop skin irritations and are allergic to plastic.Ceramic can make a good choice if you choose wisely as they are usually heavy enough and are not as easy for the dogs to spill over. Some designer ceramic bowls contain lead and other toxic substances which are harmful to the dogs. Also, you may need to keep a regular check for any cracks or scratches developed on ceramic bowls as it encourages bacteria. Stainless steel dog bowls are the best choice due to its durability. These bowls last for a lifetime and are easy to clean, rust free and non-leaching.

2) Automatic or one meal feeder :
If you have a busy life style and if the dog is mostly alone in the house you may choose to buy an automatic feeder. But if you are able to feed your dog with all the meals then the one meal feeder is affordable and the right choice.

3) Elevated or ground level bowl :
Dogs with a back problem, dogs with arthritis and bigger dogs mostly are not able to comfortably eat from the ground level bowls. For these dogs it is important to choose a elevated feeder and adjust it to position it at the height that suits your dog. For the small young dogs you may choose the ground level bowls as they can comfortably eat in them.

4) Right size of the dog bowl:
Big dogs eat bigger meals so it is always suitable to feed the in big bowls and for smaller dogs a small sized bowl will be perfect as they eat small meals. Choosing the right size of the bowl which can easily hold the right amount of food is also necessary.

These are a few necessary steps that you may look out while choosing a dog bowl for your loving pet.

Dog Depression/Dullness - Symptoms of Grief and Loss

Dogs suffer from dullness or depression when they are unwell. Typically, dog dullness/depression is symptomatic of infections that lead to high temperature making the dog weak.

A common dog health problem includes dog depression. It's fairly common to notice your dog behave differently in certain situations such as when a loved one goes away, or dog becomes unwell.

A common pet health question is," why is my dog dull? He doesn't take interest in any activity and is almost always mopy. What can I do to help him?" Understandably, as a pet owner you are bound to be concerned if your dog is not his cheerful and lively self. Just like we tend to go into depression for many different reasons, you'll be surprised to know that dog depression is very similar to ours. Moreover, dullness or depression in dogs can lead to serious dog health problem if he stops eating or drinking sufficient water.

Dog Depression/Dullness - Symptoms

One of the most common causes of dog depression is grief due to loss. If your dog has a playmate that has died, you may find your pet trying to behave as if his playmate is still there. He may also be sad and sulk all the time.
Another reason why your dog feels depressed could be due to a change of environment especially if your dog has been moved from an older, more familiar home to a new and strange home or kennel. This dog health problem of depression can lead to him stopping to eat or drinking. As your dog gets used to the new house or returns home from the kennel, he is likely to feel better and his depression will start to dissipate.

Sometimes changes in weather also tend to cause depression in dogs. You may already be aware that dogs and other animals can always sense the change in weather much before we can tell. A dog can become dull as a response to change in weather. However, pet health question such as 'what triggers depression in a dog?" have lead scientists to research the cause. They found that certain chemical imbalances in the dog's brain cause dullness/depression and much like us, there are particular chemicals that trigger mood changes and treatments can help uplift the dog's mood.

Dog depression is a common dog health problem, which is treatable with Prozac for canines. Most veterinarians recommended dosages of dog anti-depressant and this is an effective treatment as well. Besides dog medicines, you can also make your dog participate in other dog activities and a change of pace. Taking him to a new place for his daily walk, or taking him for long walks, exposing him to newer playmates and other forms of exercise can alleviate this dog health problem as increased physical activity leads to release of some chemical in the brain that help your pooch feel much better. You can also try to enroll in a Doggy Day Care centre or buy a new puppy to provide relief to your dog's current state of depression.

Older dogs can suffer from a broad range of illnesses and conditions. It's important to take your pet for regular visits with his veterinarian, especially as he or she ages. With modern medicines, there is no reason that your older pup can't live a long and comfortable life.

Arthritis is a common ailment for older animals. Just like humans, dogs can suffer from painful, inflamed joints that make it difficult to get the exercise that they need. Any dog can come down with bronchitis, just like humans. But older dogs are more prone to the condition. If you suspect bronchitis, take your pet to the vet. He or she might prescribe Flovent (Fluticasone) HFA Inhalation Aerosol. This is a great treatment for bronchitis or asthma in dogs and cats. An inhaled steroid, it is usually used twice a day and comes with a mask for easier administration. Your vet can show you how to use it in a way that keeps your pet comfortable and calm.

If your older dog suffers from seizures or convulsions, consider putting him on K-BroVet (Potassium Bromide). This anticonvulsant comes in capsule form and is commonly used to treat neurological conditions in dogs. Epilepsy, brain trauma or other conditions that cause seizures can be frightening for you and your pet, so it is important that you keep him or her on a regular treatment regimen. While most seizures are not painful, they can be confusing and disorienting for your pet, so if you suspect something neurological is at work, seek out your pet's vet right away.

Eye problems can occur at any age, but older dogs are more susceptible to them. Glaucoma is one common condition as dogs advance in age, and it causes pressure on the eyes that can become serious. If your pet suffers from intraocular pressure, your veterinarian might recommend Methazolamide Tablets for Pets. These tablets can be taken with or without food €" however is convenient for you and your dog.

As your dog ages, make sure to keep him on a regular schedule with his veterinarian. Modern medications can improve the quality of life for your pet, and can often even extend that life for many years.

natural dog food
